Hi,
I am filling this issue, to link it to https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=919408 and to be sure that upstream dev are aware of it.

Error was:

Can you please provide version that opens directly from bin file that means with all dependences. When I want to start from bin it shows messages about missing libraries.
This would make it distribution independent.

left-right pane break line doesn't keep position after stardict restart #81

omega3 opened this Issue on 10 Sep · 0 comments

omega3 commented on 10 Sep

Every time I start stardict I move this line to the left. After I close stardict and open again I need to move it again to the left, where I want it to be. So, stardict doesn't save this setting.

https://i.imgur.com/3RdL9ru.png

It is on stardict 3.0.6 Manjaro Plasma 5, Breeze theme used for gtk2 applications.

Expected result: when I move the line to the left to make right pane wider stardict should keep this setting after restart.

right window border is too thick #80
@omega3
omega3 opened this issue 3 months ago • edited 3 months ago

I use Plasma KDE in Ubuntu 18.04 but for gtk apps I use Adwaita. The problem is that right window border width is too thick and when I move mouse to the right side of the screen mouse cursor doesn't touch scrollbar and it is impossible to scroll. The same happens on Xfce.

The other possible cause of the problem is that the space between right border and slider, I mean the frame that surrounds the slider / scrollbar of Adwaita theme. Perhaps making slider wider would help but if there is a way to get rid of the space between right border and slider that would be a better solution. But this is only a guess that it may depend on specific theme used. I don't know. I don't know how to modify gtk2 theme to check this.

In adwaita folder I have two metacity files
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1eCF2V0j7o6YuLYI0n9pncEtFrAFobG5h
I uploaded theme because I don't know what gtk versions are they. So
you can check yourself.

https://imgur.com/a/0eSqNHc

Blue colour shows windows frame. Red colour shows frame of the slider / scrollbar.

On minimized windows it is clearly visible that there are a lot of pixels from right window border to scrollbar.
https://imgur.com/a/E3bVCu5

And I don't have this problem with KDE / Qt applications. I don't have this problem with libreoffice, although it uses adwaita too.
LibreOffice: 6.0.4.2
Build ID: 1:6.0.4~rc2-0ubuntu0.14.04.2
CPU threads: 2; OS: Linux 3.13; UI render: default; VCL: gtk2;

https://imgur.com/a/nnL9AL4

On the screenshot is minimized window but with maximised there is no problem and mouse touches scrollbar.

This affects version 3.0.1 of stardict.
Version 3.0.6 cannot be installed on Ubuntu because of unmet dependances. So, I am unable to check this version.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/stardict/+bug/1772420
From what I can see on Debian site Debian packager don't respond to
packaging reqeust of Sun, 24 Jul 2016
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=667929

There is PPA for Ubuntu but I don't know if it can be trusted.
ppa:xuzhen666/stardict
The name looks similar but not exactly the same.

Is stardict still developed / maintained?

My proposal is to use transifex for translations: transifex.com. It's free for open-source projects and many translators are there. So, you always will have fresh translations.

7 Use overlay icons in system tray icon 1.0 open 2015-07-28 2015-07-29

Similarly to Blueman applet 1.22.

Do not use complete icons, such as docklet_scan.png and docklet_stop.png.

Use docklet_normal.png and overlay on it a transparent icon with magnifying glass (docklet_scan) etc.

Why not? Let's try.

        Why not /etc/xdg/autostart/?

/etc/xdg/autostart is for very important applications for system. Dictionary is not in this category. If you try to use /etc/xdg/autostart, then maintainers will delete your file anyway. It should be option: want user to use autostart or don't want, but not forcibly by /etc/xdg/autostart.

Yes. But don't forget to check if directory $HOME/.config/autostart exists and if not, then to create it (so, you will not have the same issue https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13951).

Own icons allow don't depend on system themes and not all icons now are with according action. So, good if you work with icons.

    Phixy
    Phixy - 2015-07-29

    You are correct.

There is a way to fallback to an icon if a preferred one is not available, for example Midori Web Browser has an icon ID for adding a bookmark, and if it is not present on system, it falls back to a typical add icon.

    Last edit: Phixy 2015-07-29

    AlexL
    AlexL - 2015-07-29

    Two ways:
    1) do not use icons from themes and use only own icons
    2) use icons from themes in priority, but to have own icon if icon is missing in themes.

    Phixy
    Phixy - 2015-07-29

Rename the current icons with the names of the proposed icons, and default to use the StarDict icons if icons of the same name are not available on system.

    Example: Rename index_wazard.png to view-list-symbolic.png

Place icons in /usr/share/stardict/icons/hicolor/ instead of /usr/share/stardict/pixmaps/

    3) Use icons in /usr/share/stardict/icons/hicolor/ if system theme does not have them.

    AlexL
    AlexL - 2015-07-29

My the best way do not use system icons and have own.
Clamtk created a lot of issues for maintainers because of system icons, please attention https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14505.

    Phixy
    Phixy - 2015-07-29

    Perhaps Clamtk implements it wrongly?

Gajim does what I suggested (3), with standard icons, and it appears to be working as expected.

Ever since GTK+3 has stock icons deprecated, all GTK+3 applications would have to bundle icons, and using the same icon name (ID) seems to be the easiest solution, no?

    AlexL
    AlexL - 2015-07-29

        Perhaps Clamtk implements it wrongly?

    Yes.
I have no issues for Gajim. So, OK if Gajim is your workable example.
